How does Clip Squeezer work?

Clip Squeezer is powered by FFmpeg, a free, open-source set of tools used throughout the video industry. FFmpeg is battle-tested: it has been developed and tested for many years, can read an enormous range of video files, and produces reliable, high-quality results.

FFmpeg is amazing at this work, but it is normally controlled by typing commands in a terminal. Those commands can include unfamiliar choices about video formats, picture quality, sound, and compatibility. That power is valuable, but it can make a simple job feel much harder than it should.

Clip Squeezer makes the common jobs easy

Clip Squeezer handles four things people regularly need: make a video smaller, convert it, trim it, or extract its audio. You choose the result in ordinary language. Clip Squeezer inspects the file, chooses a suitable FFmpeg command, runs it on your computer, and saves a new file.

When is the result lossless?

When you convert a file, Clip Squeezer first checks whether the existing picture and sound can be copied into the new file type unchanged. If they can, the app shows No quality change. Original-quality audio extraction can also copy the existing sound unchanged when practical.

Making a video smaller must rebuild the picture using less data. Accurate trimming also rebuilds the kept section. In those cases Clip Squeezer uses careful, high-quality settings, but calling the result lossless would be misleading.

Should I use FFmpeg directly?

If you are comfortable in a terminal and want complete control, we recommend learning FFmpeg. Its official documentation is the right place to start. You can automate batches, choose exact technical settings, add filters, and do far more than Clip Squeezer offers.

If you just want these four common jobs to work well without learning video commands, use Clip Squeezer. Its small set of choices is intentional.

Private by default

FFmpeg runs inside the installed app on your computer. Your video is not sent to Clip Squeezer, FFmpeg, or a cloud service. The app works offline and creates a new file without changing the original.
