How to make a video smaller

Create a smaller sharing or storage copy using plain-language quality, resolution, and compatibility choices.

Steps

  1. 1

    Add or drop a video.

  2. 2

    Select Make smaller.

  3. 3

Choose Best quality, Balanced, or Smallest file.

  4. 4

Optionally keep the resolution or reduce it to 1080p/720p.

  5. 5

Choose wide compatibility or a smaller HEVC file, review the estimate, and start.

What to expect

  • Start with Balanced for an everyday video.
  • Keep the current picture size when the video contains small text. Try 1080p for most sharing or 720p for a tight limit.
  • Choose Works almost everywhere when someone else needs to play the file. Choose Smaller file only when you know their device supports HEVC.

Good to know

  • The estimate is a guide, not a guaranteed size.
  • The original is never changed.
  • Watch the output before deleting or archiving the source.
