Why is my video file so huge?
Understand video size in plain language: length, picture size, frame rate, movement, and compression.
The short answer
A video is large because it is long, records a very detailed picture, stores many frames each second, uses light compression, or combines several of those things.

Why this happens
Every extra minute adds more data. 4K has four times as many pixels as 1080p. 60 fps stores twice as many frames as 30 fps. Busy scenes such as games, crowds, leaves, water, or camera noise are also harder to store compactly.
What should I choose?
Length
Trim first when only part of the recording matters.
Picture size
4K is useful for editing and large displays; 1080p or 720p is often enough for sharing.
Quality
Start with Balanced, then move in the direction your result needs.

Common questions
Does changing MOV to MP4 make a file smaller?
Not by itself. Those names describe the wrapper around the video. Compression settings and the video inside have more effect.
Why is dark or grainy video hard to shrink?
Camera noise changes randomly from frame to frame, so the computer has more new detail to store.
