OBS often records MKV files, but some editors, phones, and upload forms only accept MP4.

Why this happens
Think of MKV and MP4 as two different boxes for video and sound. Sometimes Clip Squeezer can move the contents into the new box unchanged. If MP4 cannot hold what is inside, it converts the video or sound to something MP4 understands.

The video needs converting
Use this when the contents are not accepted in MP4. The app creates compatible picture or sound for you.

Common questions
Why is the MP4 nearly the same size?
A no-quality-change conversion copies the existing contents, so it changes compatibility rather than size.
Why record MKV in OBS at all?
MKV is less likely to become unusable if recording is interrupted. You can convert the completed recording to MP4 afterward.
